Upcoming Changes for Midway Traffic Patterns

Opening: Birchcrest Blvd., Sheehan Blvd., and Beacon Dr. Closing: Hariet and Abscott Streets       Birchcrest Blvd., Sheehan Blvd., and Beacon Dr., on the north side of Midway Blvd., are planned to be re-opened on April 23, 2018.        Furthermore, Abscott and Harriet Streets to the north side of Midway Blvd. will be closed to through traffic for approximately 2 months.      In addition, Sharpe St., Scotten St., as well as portions of Inverness St., Noble Terrace and Page Street, will remain closed.      Residents may use adjacent streets to access their homes.      All sidewalks on Midway Blvd. are now open.       Please see detour maps for more information.

Fri., Feb. 2 – Traffic Pattern Change, Street Closings and Re-openings

Starting Friday, Feb. 2, all two-way traffic on Midway Blvd. will be shifted to the south side of the new roadway from Sharpe St. to Kings Highway. Also, on Friday, Sharpe St., Scotten St., and Birchcrest Blvd., on the north side of Midway Blvd., will be closed for approximately 3 months. Residents are asked to use Harbor Blvd., and Dawson Ave. to access their homes. In addition, short sections of Sheehan Blvd., Noble Terrace and Page St. will be closed on the north side of Midway for approximately 3 months. Residents are asked to use Hariet St. or Hayworth Rd. and Laramore Ave. to access to their homes.  Also, on Friday, Feb. 2, Birchcrest Blvd. and Starlite Lane will be re-opened on the south side of Midway Blvd.  A dedicated pedestrian route will be provided for students along segments of Sheehan Blvd, Hariet St. and Midway Blvd. between Hariet St. and Hayworth Rd.

Birchcrest and Starlite intersecions close Jan. 11 for one month

Short sections of Starlite Lane and Birchcrest Blvd. on the south side of Midway Blvd. will be closed for approximately one month starting Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018. This closure is necessary to complete the road construction in those areas. Residents are asked to use the adjacent streets and intersections to access their homes. Please refer to the attached map for additional route information. Also, Hariet St., Conway Blvd., and Hayworth Rd. on the south of Midway Blvd. will re-open on the 11th.

Inverness and Beacon, North of Midway,To Close Dec. 27

A short section of Inverness St. and Beacon Drive on the north side of Midway Blvd. will be closed for approximately 3 months starting Dec. 27. This closure is necessary to complete the road construction in those areas. Residents are asked to use Orlando Blvd. / McNulty Ave., and Abscott St. / Amethyst Ave.  to access to their homes. Also, Beacon Dr., Morley St., and Alton Rd. to the south of Midway Blvd. will re-open on Dec. 27.    

Alton Rd. Detour and Traffic Pattern Change

A small section of Alton Rd. on the north side of Midway Blvd. will be closed for construction starting Monday, Dec. 11. This closure is necessary to complete the new sanitary system in that area. The intersection is expected to be closed approximately one week.  Residents are asked to use Orlando Blvd. and Foote Ave. to access to their homes.

Detour Announced for Beacon Drive

CHARLOTTE COUNTY TRAFFIC ADVISORY  Detours announced for Beacon Drive A section of Beacon Dr. on the south side of Midway Boulevard will be closed for construction starting Monday, Nov. 27. This closure is necessary to complete the Beacon intersection construction on the south side. The planned schedule to re-open is late January, 2018.   Residents are asked to use Abscott St. and Fontaine Ave. for access to their homes.

Crosswalk Opens At PCMS

Monday, October 16, the newly constructed sidewalks and crosswalk opened in front of Port Charlotte Middle School on Midway Blvd. for all pedestrians including students. The speed limit is 20mph. Please drive safely.

Clean-Up Begins From Hurricane Irma

The contractor will be re-installing traffic control devices and providing general clean up from the storm in anticipation school re-opening Monday, Sept. 18. Once the storm clean-up is complete and traffic control devices are re-established, the contractor will resume regular construction activity.

Storm Precautions

Notice to all Motorists & Residents Until Further Notice  Midway Blvd from Harbor Blvd to Kings Highway is currently under major construction.  Charlotte County Project Management has directed immediate action to be taken on this project in preparation for the effects of Hurricane Irma.   All non-essential traffic control devices will be removed from the roadway and secured during this storm event.  Only mandatory safety devices will remain and secured to protect the general public.  Motorists and residents are to use extreme caution while in this vicinity.  This area is prone to flooding while the project is still under construction.  Please do not use this roadway unless absolutely necessary.  Please visit www.AlertCharlotte.com for emergency notifications.
